Marsh Sandpiper

Tringa stagnatilis

Description:

Small gracile elegant wader, about 25cm in length, from the family Scolopacidae. Its colors and forms resemble greenshank, except for fine, "needle" like straight long bill and longer legs. The coat is lighter grey-brown in color, and lightly streaked.

Habitat:

Seen on shores of soda lake in central Kenya. Observed during four to five days of my stay on shores, in loosely congregated groups of various waders, gulls and cormorants.

Notes:

Other birds observed in this flocks were Common, Green and Wood Sandpipers, Greenshanks, Ruffs, stilts and stints, as well as some smaller plovers (Common, Kittlitz, three-banded plover)
