Tailless whip scorpion

Amblypygi

Description:

This is one of the strangest "bugs" that I have ever seen. It could have easily auditioned for a sci fi movie when magnified considerably.

Habitat:

Amazon rainforest

Notes:

This specimen was shown to some in our group in the 2013 Educator Academy by Randy Morgan, formerly of the Cincinnati Zoo.

This is a male- note the long (wide) pedipalps. It is not a whip scorpion (Vinegaroons - order Thelyphonida) nor a scorpion (Scorpion - Scorpiones), it is however "tailless".

Wow! I don't get creeped out by much, but I think I might turn the other way if I met up with that:). Awesome photo!
