Rusty gilled polypore

Gloeophyllum sepiarium

Description:

Lovely, dry, rust-colored bracket I encountered at Jamaica Bay. The gills are tan to yellow, convoluted and delicate. The cap has occasional chocolate colored bands. Infrequent and inedible.

Habitat:

Fence (dead wood) at a wildlife refuge; it's a saprobic fungus.
