Stinging Nettle

Urtica dioica

Description:

This plant barely grazed my foot and stung me badly. It felt like a jelly-fish sting. The dog barks at it - apparently she has been stung before by it too and knows to stay away from it.

Habitat:

Suburban home

Notes:

This plant is growing in the potting soil among the leaves of a Hosta plant. It stung my foot, and separately stung my wife's hand when she grabbed it thinking it was a weed. Her while hand swelled up and parts went numb for several hours.
