Ladybird eggs

Family; Coccinellidae

Description:

A cluster of about 45 bright orange-yellow spindle shaped eggs, each about a millimeter tall, attached to the tree trunk by their pointy end.

Habitat:

Spotted on the trunk of a spotted gum (Eucalyptus maculata)

Notes:

These eggs are probably those of the Harmonia sp - they are every where this month. They will hatch in 1 to 2 weeks into tiny black larvae. The larvae feed on small insects like aphids, scale and mites.
