California Condor

Gymnogyps californianus

Description:

OMG OMG OMG! I've waited 34 years to see one of these! Unmistakable, with those 9-foot-plus wingspan, and that white under the wings! I nearly hyperventilated. Later I saw a juvenile perched on a rock. Head was black not pink. The sheer size, along with the relatively small head showed it was indeed a condor! TWO in one day.

Habitat:

South Rim (not the North Rim, where most people tell you to go to see them..)
