Lycogala epidendrum

Description:

I assume this is a fungus... light brown/orange colouration , about 18mm in diameter. The 'ball' and the fringed base were all that was visible. Inside the hollow of an old tree trunk.

Habitat:

On the way to the 'Rostro Maya', San Juan La Laguna, Lake Atitlán.
