Woodland edges and shrubby fields. This one spotted in a Cypress Swamp.
From certain angles this wasp looked as if it had a smiley face on its abdomen. Spotted along a hiking trail in a wet cypress swamp on what I believe was Water Dropwort (Oxypolis filiformis).
