Northern Walkingstick

Diapheromera femorata

Description:

A walking stick insect.

Habitat:

Northwest Michigan back yard.

Notes:

What a great way to hide by looking like a stick! I haven't seen one of these since I was a kid up close. My husband found it in the yard on a potted plant while I was getting ready for work and brought it in so I could photograph it and see it. Very cool insect! Thank you Project Noah for renewing our interest in looking for those things we don't usually notice in our yard. It's been a great hobby for my husband and I to share.

I keep hoping to run across one. I haven't seen one in years. :)
