Halberd Leaf Yellow Violet

Viola hastata

Description:

A native wildflower, the hastate (meaning arrowhead shaped) leaves of Viola hastata give it the species epithet. Yellow flowers with halberd shaped leaves which may be veined with bronze. (Halberd is an axe like weapon used in the 15th and 16th centuries.) They have two to four leaves, born high on the stem.

USA (AL, FL, GA, KY, MD, MS, NC, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, WV) Woods or cool stream borders
