Leafcutter Bee

Lithurgus apicalis

Description:

Bees that cut out almost perfect circles out of leafs or flowers to build cells for their hives. This species is black and white and loves cactus flowers. These bees are great pollinators. Though they damage the leaves they do not damage the plants. And unlike bumblebees their sting is not harmful and they only will when handled.

Habitat:

They make their hives in rotting wood or pruned stems of plants of soft wood like roses.
