American Mink

Neovison vison

Description:

Adult male mink weighs approx. 0.9-1.6 kg and has a total body length of about 58-70 cm (60 cm on average) including the tail. Female Mink is significantly smaller and weighs approx. 0.7 to 1.1 kg and has a total length of approx. 46-57 cm (50 cm on average) including the tail.

Habitat:

Mink thrive in forested areas with close proximity to water

Notes:

The American Mink was brought to Norway in 1927 for fur production, but in 1930's a flood destroyed a mink farm and all the mink that survived the flood did escape and started breeding and spreading around Norway. From the 80's the mink are found all over Norway. In Norway the mink are blacklisted
