Botaurus lentiginosus
American bitterns are large wading birds in the heron family. They are easily distinguished by the brown and creamy white streaks that run lengthwise down their necks and breast. A perfect camouflage for hiding in reeds, tall grass and cattails.
Spotted in a wetland.
The American bittern feeds mostly on fish but also eats other small vertebrates as well as crustaceans and insects.
