Northern Water Snake

Nerodia sipedon

Description:

This juvenile has a tan dorsal color with brown crossbands on the body.

Habitat:

This little guy was hanging out in a seepage drain pool in high elevation mountains. The seeps are crawling with dozens of salamanders at night and I'm sure he was feeding on them when given the chance. The seep was right next to the road, but the area was thick with oak and other types of trees.
