Yellow Salsify (seed head)

Tragopogon dubius

Description:

seedhead of the Yellow Salsify is really beautiful. Sad to learn that it is introduced to North America. The yellow flower has some similarities to the dandelion (also introduced) but the flower bud is longer and the plant grows to about a foot tall.

Habitat:

grass field at Fintry Provincial Park, BC

Yes I love the design too. My favourite thing about them though is watching my grandkids blow the seeds all over the field with the sun shining and the wind blowing a bit.....

I love the geometry of these flower heads especially when they get big and almost dry.
