Black spiny-tailed iguana

Description:

Black spiny-tailed iguana receives its name from the keeled scales on its tail.The males can growi up to 1.5 meters while the females reach 1 meter. They have a line of long spines which through the top of their back. Adults usually have a whitish gray or tan ground color with a series of 4–12 dark dorsal bands. Males also develop an orange color around the head and throat during breeding season (third picture). At a difference of the green iguanas they are occasionally carnivorous and will predate on juveniles of the former (fourth pic).
