Io Moth (male)

Automeris io

Description:

Family: Saturniidae, Subfamily: Hemileucinae. Wingspan: 50-80 mm. Sexually dimorphic. FW is largely yellow in male. Yellow HW has a red streak along inner margin and large blue eyespots boldly outlined in black. Do not have mouthparts. Hosts: Deciduous trees, shrubs and plants.

Woodlands, Comes to light

Notes:

2nd Male Io Moth found at different light source the same night as another Io Moth. Large dark moth is Waved Sphinx Moth (Ceratomia undulosa). Yellow and pink moth is Rosy Maple Moth (Dryocampa rubicunda). Yellow insect is Little Yellow Stonefly (Perlodidae sp.). Plus micro moth.
