Great Barracuda

Sphyraena barracuda

Habitat:

Usually found in water shallower than 60ft with sandy bottom. Youngsters smaller than a foot stay near shore on sandy or grassy areas or mangrove. Larger adults like patrolling wrecks and offshore reefs. Though I've seen large ones many times near shore in sandy beaches, such as the one spotted here.

Notes:

Snorkeling on the last port of call of the cruise, I was surrounded by a very large school of unidentified silvery fish. When I noticed they were swirling around a large barracuda (pic 2).
