San Clemente Spotted Towhee

Pipilo maculatus clementae

Habitat:

Grassy area under Catalina Cherry trees

Notes:

Its call is an grating “Chree?” Its song is given from a high perch “Chip chip chip tseeeee!” You can often hear this sparrow thrashing through leaf litter in search of food. This is the Catalina Island subspecies and it possibly has albinism. This one was at Cherry Cove.

Tons of people have seen this species on Noah. Maybe not the subspecies, but tons of the species.
