Achillea millefolium
About 75cm in height, the Common Yarrow is herbaceous flowering perennial from Asteraceae family, with small white flowers in tight inflorescence.
Yarrow is native to Eurasia, and is found in grasslands, forest edges and open forests, flowering from May to August. This member of Asteraceae family is a common in our region, and I observed it in a variety of habitats, from mountain grasslands to lower-altitude meadows. Here, observed growing on edges of deciduous, predominantly oak, (Bagasse forest) forest on France-Switzerland border, in a valley of lake Geneva, just in between Jura and Alps mountains ranges.
Used in beer production as aromate, and in traditional medicine for a variety of uses, most often because of its astringent (constricting body tissues) effects. Reportedly, the essential oil of Yarrow can help repel mosquitos.
