Tiger Moth Mimic of a Lycid Beetle

Dycladia correbioides

Description:

This moth mimics the bad tasting Net-Winged Beetles of the Family Lycidae. It has some metallic blue on the legs and thorax, but still looks like Dycladia correbioides, which occurs from Mexico south to Panama. About 1.5 cm long. Family Erebidae, Arctiinae, Ctenuchini. See another species spotted in the forests of the Soconusco in Southern Chiapas (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/208...).

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

For a similar Lycid Beetle model see: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/160...
