Long-Tailed Salamanders

Eurycea longicauda longicauda

Description:

The long-tailed salamander is distinguishable from the cave salamander (Eurycea lucifuga) by its more orangish (versus red-orange) color and bars, instead of spots, on the tail. The first three pictures are of one individual, and the last two are of another.

Habitat:

At Snake Road in southern Illinois. There was a cave-like crevice in the bluffs, and inside were many cave salamanders and long-tailed salamanders.
