Boisea trivittata
Boxelder bugs are oval insects with brown-black color and bright orange lines along the outside of the wings. They have a average sized head with medium length antennae.
Boxelder bugs feed on herbaceous plants and seeds they find on the ground during spring and early summer. But then in mid-summer, they become true to their common name and move to female seed bearing Boxelder trees where they lay eggs on trunks, branches and leaves.
A number of these bugs were found on a Boxelder tree in the forest area on north Cotton Lake road.
