Lace lichen

Ramalina menziesii

Description:

A unique fruticose lichen that grows up to a meter long (pic3) in a net-like pattern.

Habitat:

Spotted hanging in coniferous trees near Cranberry Lake at West Beach in Deception Pass State Park.

Notes:

After years of effort, the California Lichen Society was able to honor this lichen as the state lichen of California, and the first ever state lichen.
