What a fantastic color!
Makes one wonder if this is some cross or a subspecies all of its own on San Juan Island. I looked at a couple others from San Juan and they look similarly grey.

Could it be a different species of fox?
Yes, over in San Juan island I guess. Not sure why though, may have to do with small mate selection on the island and a bit of inbreeding.
Very interesting color variation! Is that pretty common for red foxes?
