Eastern Blue Tongue Lizard

Tiliqua scincoides scincoides

Description:

Blue tongues have somewhat unusual body proportions: a big head and long body with very short legs and small feet. Their evenly tapering tail is fat and shorter than the body. Male lizards have a proportionally larger head than females, but the females are bigger overall. The most noticeable feature of these lizards is the blue tongue inside the bright pink mouth.

Habitat:

This Blue Tongue Lizard seems to have taken up residence in my yard in an area where there is lots of old pieces of wood and sheet metal and plenty of leaf litter.

Notes:

Seems to be a bit shy. So only managed to get these few head shots so far as it played peek-a-boo from under a piece of sheet metal.
