Description:

Smallest woodpecker in North America and very common. Females are distinguishable by the lack of a red spot on their heads.

Habitat:

Hardwood trees and forests. They are spread all throughout the US and southern Canada.

Notes:

Seen at Raven Run Nature Preserve near Lexington KY.
