Oophaga pumilio
Another colour morph of the extraordinary Strawberry Poison Frog, In this type the body is a brilliant orange-red and the legs are blue. The amount of blue on each individual is variable.
Found in wet rain forest near the Tapanti National Park. Several frogs were calling and displaying to each other. The range of this particular species in Costa Rica is on the eastern divide.
These little guys are highly territorial and seem to constantly be in dispute. Interestingly even in this population in Costa Rica the frogs at higher elevation have the blue legs and clean backs and the ones lower down tend to be orange all over with black spots on their backs. Note that the first two images are of the same frog but the third image is different as I wanted to include one displaying in this spotting for reference.

I have visions of my dear mum sitting on the porch in a rocker, just like Ruth Gordon, shotgun in hand, waiting for me just to waste the energy thinking about move back home. Probably best I remain in a completely different state ;)
Thanks Neil. Decided once the kids left it was time to go exploring. Did I say they left? Do they ever really leave? Lol
Incredible spotting. You certainly get around.
Mark is right Rach, it's a nomination only but still very pleased to be up with some other great nominations. Thank you for the support though. Robert.
Not quite yet Rach... a nominee for now. ;-)
Congrats on SOTW - a very worthy series of photos
All good Leuba, thank you for your comment. The blue is quite remarkable as changes from a rich royal to nearly indigo depending on the light a pair of Jean's like that would be awesome!
Thanks for the third photo. The blue spreading over the throat pouch looks dramatic. Lovely spotting. I'd love to own a pair of jeans that looked like that.
Thank you Mark. They are so small, but very fiesty when it comes to defending its territory!
Great spotting Rob.
Thank you for the nomination Daniele. Brilliant to be up for consideration.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated Robert!
Thank you Jim for your comments and support of this spotting.

Thank you Rach. These little guys are amazing.
