It can be especially hard with the little ones if they never sit still! If you're positive of the ID (which you seemed to be with this guy), then feel free to pick them up and get a better look and it's a little easier to take photos of the belly then. Just saw my first one of these 2 days ago, and she was such a little character and was pretty fun to play with. She kept curling her upper lip like a bulldog to look threatening, but instead it was just adorable :)
Thanks for the confirmation, it's hard taking a good picture when I don't have a good camera. I only wish I had taken a picture of it when it was showing its underside.
Ahh now that you have added a few more photos, I can tell it surely is a red-bellied snake :)

Hi there, the scientific name you have provided is for an Australian species, which I can assure you this snake is not. I cannot see the snake well enough in this photo to determine whether it is or isn't a red-bellied snake, but if you know it was, the scientific name is Storeria occipitomaculata.
