Asilidae family
A mostly grey robber fly with a hunchback. The large eyes are dark brown. The legs are dark brown and black and the last segment of tail is black.
Spotted near North lake.
Robber flies have voracious appetites and are opportunistic predators, feeding on whatever prey is available in the local area. They are one of the few insects fast enough to catch Tiger Beetles. They are considered to be beneficial to gardens as they eat a variety of insects. Robber Flies are generally solitary and can bite if mishandled.
