Swamp Milkweed

Asclepias incarnata

Description:

Approximately 4 foot tall, erect with clusters of pink flowers. "Five reflexed petals and an elevated central crown" (see site ref.) Narrow, lance shaped leaves, not covered with fuzz.

Habitat:

Found in a wet ditch between the road and my mowed lawn. Also have it planted in my butterfly garden.

Notes:

Prone to aphid infestations, making it an excellent plant to spot lady beetles. Important plant for Monarch Butterfly Conservation, as it is a host plant native to the area. A magnet for pollinators of all sorts, especially large butterflies.
