Box Crab

Calappa hepatica

Description:

Saw this Female Box Crab during Sunset dive, heavy with Eggs and then she perched herself on a small mount and started to release her Eggs/Embryos into the water column. The tiny white dots in the pictures are the Eggs/Embryos. Watch the video to see her doing that. She was probably carrying hundred of thousands of Eggs!

Habitat:

Benthic creature, tends to live among sandy bottom in the shallows.
