Silk Moth

Lonomia luteomexicana

Description:

Unusual tan Silk Moth with a single dark line running through all 4 wings. The thorax and abdomen have yellowish hairs. This specimen is a bit worse for the wear. Family Saturniidae.

Habitat:

Sitting on a sign at the Toll Booth on the highway to Arriaga Chiapas, along the border with the Sepultura Biosfera Reserve. About 5 cm long.

Lonomia luteomexicana.
This is one of the newer ones (2013) described by Brechlin and Meister for Oaxaca and Chaipas.
