Shining Green Forester

Bebearia barce

Description:

Bebearia barce, the Shining Green Forester, is a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family. The wings on this butterfly changes from a plain dark colour to iridescent blue, depending on the light. The adults are scarce and secretive, and fly close to the ground in areas where dappled sunlight reaches the forest floor. Males perch in sunspots, on foliage or fallen branches, to await passing females. If disturbed by other butterflies or by human activity they fly to another nearby sunspot, but soon return to their original perch.

Habitat:

Tropical forest Photo 5 shows the habitat where I found it.

Notes:

This species is found in rainforest habitats, often in the vicinity of swamp palms.

Haha, thanks bayucca. I looked though this page on Butterflies from Africa many times without recognizing this one. It looks so different from Adrian's photo.
