Difficult to get a picture of this constantly moving painted lady butterfly. It is perhaps the most widespread butterfly in the world. Ranges throughout all of North America. Alternate name "Cosmopolite" and "Thistle Butterfly"
This painted lady was spotted in a beautiful garden at Hillwood Gardens in Washington, DC.
