A Southeastern Field Cricket

Description:

Around 7:00 a.m. in the morning, I started to sweep the kitchen floor. After a few minutes of sweeping, I spotted an expired insect, in one of the corners of the kitchen. I picked up this insect, and gently placed it on a white piece of paper, so I could take some photos of it. This insect, had two, long, thin antennae, and a black head. The colors of this insect, was different shades of brown, some green, and some black. One rear jumping leg, was missing. The bottom part of the rear jumping leg, had downward facing spines on it. This insect, was one inch long. This insect, was a female. This insect, has an ovipositor. This ovipositor, was one half of an inch long. This insect, has wings, and a segmented abdomen. I saw one cercus, on this insect....

Habitat:

I found this expired insect, in one of the corners of this kitchen, while I was sweeping the kitchen floor.

Notes:

Compare to Gryllus sp. (field crickets), maybe Gryllus rubens. Cricket species can be difficult to distinguish though.
