Common Whitetail Dragonfly (male)

Description:

Mature males have a short, stout abdomen that is completely chalky blue-white. Length is about 1.75 in or 5 cm. Broad dark bands mid-wing. Like all perchers, Common Whitetails often rest on objects near the water, and sometimes on the ground. Males are territorial and will fiercely guard a specific edge of the water.

Habitat:

This one barely rested as it continuously defended its territory from Widow Skimmers, Libellula luctuosa.
