These two ambush bugs appear to be mating, but they are not. The male is sitting on top of the female in a piggyback position, which is referred to as "coupling" - a pre or post copulation guarding behavior. Copulation in these bugs only occurs when the male is positioned next to the female.
These bugs are incredibly camouflaged. They have brown, black, green, and yellow coloration and a triangular scutellum. They get their common name from their habit of lying in wait for prey.
I spotted these bugs in a large meadow.
