Short spined sea star

Pisaster brevispinus

Description:

A reddish pink starfish with short white spines. The diameter is about 30 cm (they can grow to 60 cm).

Habitat:

Spotted in a saltwater lagoon at low tide. There were several of these starfish near a culvert opening eating mussels, which were plentiful.
