Marbled Gecko

Christinus marmoratus

Description:

The Marbled Gecko is pale grey or brown above with a mix of dark patterned markings with sometimes specks of gold, creating an effect resembling marble. They are white or pale underneath sometimes so pale that internal organs can be seen. The gecko can grow to a little over 10 cm including tail.

Habitat:

Common all along the southern coast of Australia living in woodland or bushy areas. We found this one in the ceiling of our detached rumpus room. It was quiet and friendly but finally ran off into our bushy backyard.

Notes:

Marbled Geckos are often kept as pets in Australia. They are nocturnal and usually spend their days in the bark of eucalypt trees. Some can be quite friendly and be handled for minutes at a time while others can be aggressive and territorial.
