Single, shiny leaves, red in color with light green speckles, on a thorny vine. Leaves on top redder than bottom leaves.

Habitat:

Around an oak tree with poison ivy and blackberries.

I did a search for smilax and that does seem to match. It looks like green brier. The picture I took was a younger growth of the plant. I found a more mature vine of it growing nearby and the leaves are all green instead of red. I'm guessing only the younger leaves look red.
