Osprey

Pandion haliaetus

Habitat:

Near almost any body of water: saltmarshes, rivers, ponds, reservoirs, estuaries, and even coral reefs.

Notes:

How is that for a finial? This very patriotic Osprey loves to sit there all day and night on the flag pole (I've seen it for a few years when I visit; assuming it's the same bird) overlooking the shallow grass bed and tidal mudflats off of the Florida Keys. The Osprey is quite beautiful, but I guess if it had been a Bald Eagle it would have been perfect.
