Wall Crab Spider

Selenops mexicanus

Description:

Arboreal spider of about 2.5cm body length, with a very flat body; grey/brown cryptic colouration with dark patches and bands on legs and around the mouth area. Some species of this genus are known to glide, which is helped by their flat body shape. Some believe they can even steer by moving their legs as they descend through the air, enabling them to "fly" between trees. There's a cool video here: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2015/...

Habitat:

Rainforest around Laguna Miramar in Chiapas, Mexico.
