Weaver ant

Oecophylla smaragdina

Description:

5 red ants carrying a dead one up to the nest. Red-brown in colour, about 10 mm long, with long legs. Oecophylla smaragdina is a species of arboreal ant found in tropical Asia and Australia. These ants form colonies with multiple nests in trees, each nest being made of leaves stitched together using the silk produced by the ant larvae.

Habitat:

Spotted during a day walk at Taman Cattleya - Jakarta, an urban park located in the middle of Jakarta city.
