Giant Amazonian Water Lily

Victoria amazonica

Description:

The species has very large leaves, up to 3 m in diameter, that float on the water's surface on a submerged stalk, 7–8 m in length The largest of the Nymphaeaceae family of water lilies.

Habitat:

Amazon basin, oxbow lakes and bayous

Notes:

spotted this on a 10 day trek in the Brazilian Amazon, near Manaus. It was raining hard when we finally got to it and it was really muddy but I wasn't going to let that stop me. I stopped trying to keep my feet dry and tried to get close to take a better picture of the flowers but as I stepped onto the grass featured in the third photo, I sunk up to my knees! that was as close as I was going to get!

That cool. You've been in Brazil. Never went to amazon.

I would love to be able to travel. Maybe one day.
I really like that second photo.
