Trivia: reptile's called 'paamburaani' in Tamil. The other well known part about the creature's nature is it is notoriously forgetful: it approaches a person with the intention of biting(or stinging or licking?) and just as it is about to do the act it forgets its intention and returns! A blessing for human beings as this trait saves them from death by poison.
