Gumnut Leaf Beetle

Trachymela sp.

Description:

A leaf beetle about 12 mm long. The thorax, head and elytra were black, rough textured with mottling of pinkish-brown patches.

Habitat:

Spotted on Manna Gum ( eucalyptus viminalis) in a nature reserve.

Notes:

This leaf beetle could be Trachymela explanata.
I apologise for the slightly fuzzy photos - the little beetle was extremely active & wouldn't stop for even a second. These leaf beetles look very much like gum nuts because of their colouring and texturing.
Here is another one of these leaf beetles

Family: Chrysomelidae
