Red-eared Slider

Trachemys scripta elegans

Description:

This turtle was basking on the one rock that was poking out of the pond

Habitat:

Saw this turtle sunbathing while I was walking through the north end of Central Park.

Notes:

There was a smaller and younger red-eared slider in the same pond, but I wasn't able to get a decent pic.

You should alert the ny dec, this is an invasive turtle and threatens our native populations

I hear you - I always leave my camera behind when I need it most. We spotted an egret at The Pool as well. That's a great little corner of Central Park.

Hey Dave, it was actually at a spot called "The Pool" on the north west side of the Park. Turtle pond is great though. It was a hot and beautiful day and I saw several turtles basking, blue jays, cardinals, and even a white egret. This was the best photo I could grab with my phone though! I should have packed a proper camera! Next time.

Hey Yasser -
Was it Turtle Pond? We got some great shots there when we were in Central Park last summer.
