Coal Tit

Parus ater

Description:

A coal tit on a pine tree, a delightful little bird with a glossy blue-black head, throat and neck and a distinctive white nape. Two white wingbars help differentiate it from the great tit.

Habitat:

Temperate to subtropical Eurasia and northern Africa

Notes:

I heard it fly around before I saw it. 3rd shots shows it nesting in a tree hollow. Spotted in a forest near my home for Earth Week 2011.
