Megalorhipida leucodactylus

Description:

Approximately 4-7 mm long. The wings about 8-14 mm long. "The adult moths have wings composed of separate feather-like segments. They are brown with black and white markings, and have a wingspan of about 2 cms." (http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au... )

Habitat:

Outside wall of the house.

Notes:

I was hanging out the washing that night and saw this little moth on the way back in. I've seen one like it before but this is the first, good enough pics to share :) Thank you for the identification dhobern!!! And thank you for your initial clarification Jellis!

Megalorhipida leucodactylus is separated from the outwardly rather similar Stangeia xerodes (the most similar Australian species) by the way the dark lines on the hind legs "corkscrew" around instead of passing in a straight longitudinal direction.

yes it is. There are many subspecies, but best to keep it at Pterophoridae sp.
